Safe House: Pictures From The Set [8 Pics]

Safe House - the movie currently being shot in Cape Town CBD - centers on the only surviving agent of an attack on a CIA safe house (Ryan Reynolds) as he tries to get a lethal prisoner (Denzel Washington) to a second safe house before being apprehended by dangerous entities that want them both dead. Daniel Espinosa (Easy Money, Outside Love) is directing the film, which was written by David Guggenheim (Medallion, Exit Strategy). Other big names involved in the movie include Brendan Gleeson, Robert Patrick, Liam Cunningham, Tim Mcgraw Sam Shepard, and Ruben Blades.

I pretty amped for this movie - not only because I've liked Reynolds since Van Wilder, and Washington since The Bone Collector - but also because I'm pretty sure that the whole movie is going to be instantly recognizable - especially as far as locations go - for anyone who is familiar with the City of Cape Town.

Yesterday, @chriscaptivate and I took a walk down to the set of Safe House (they were shooting just outside the entrance to the Eastern Food Bizarre) to get our paparazzi on and take some undercover photos of the set. This is what we got.

Yes, that last one is the Wilder himself. And no, I didn't take it (unfortunately), but it was taken by a colleague from Purple Cow so... Close enough!

Safe House is scheduled to hit theaters on February 10, 2012.

  1. My aunt and cousin have been extras on this film. They were literally 3 feet away from Denzel Washington and didn't know it was him until someone called him by his name....big duh moment there!!

  2. Awesome! It's a strange experience to see a famous person in real life. A little surreal. Thanks for the comment Stephi.

  3. Epic... it's weird to think that people can be so famous that getting a self taken photo of them is awesome. Is it something we should all strive for?

  4. I wouldn't say "strive for", but if you get the opportunity then grab it by the Reynolds.

  5. I have also been used as an extra on several shoots for this movie and what I have learned is that Denzel Washington is supremely good at what he does. On set he is pin-point focused and literaly only needs one or two takes to do a scene. (Ryan Reynolds is very friendly and down to earth and neither seem to be arrogant?)

Having also observed the making of general commercials and theatre productions, making a movie is incredibly challenging, expensive and complicated. I have a new respect for big budget films and am looking forward to seeing the results of this one.
Cape Town is really benefitting too!

  6. Hey Amanda, just saw your comment now; thanks for your thoughts.

I would dig to see Denzel doing his thing - I'm sure he's brilliant.

As for big budget films, I hope we see more of them being made here - entirely likely, considering the impending Cape Town Film Studio construction :)
