FAILblog - Rapture FAILS - Another collection of funny pictures regarding the Rapture (or the lack thereof). What really amazes me is that some of these billboards have the words "The Bible Guarantees It" for everyone to see. Somewhere, people are feeling stupid. And stupid likes it.

After The Rapture Pet Care - According to various self-proclaimed specialists, the worst part about being raptured is leaving behind your beloved pets. Services on the web offered care for these pets once the rapture took place. Believe it.

New York Pioneers The Outdoor Smoking Ban

As of today, New York has has become a slightly worse place for smokers of the humble cigarette. That's right: they've banned smoking outdoors in NY. Of course - being based in South Africa - this doesn't bother me much. That being said, living in a third-world country hasn't blinded me to the very real possibility that this ban will catch on like wildfire. As history has proven time and time again: when the US talks, the world listens.

New York authorities have taken measures to ensure that popular public outdoor venues - including beaches, municipal parks and even Times Square - have become tobacco-free. Violators of this new law can be faced with a hefty cash fine (even heftier if you're on holiday from SA). Apparently city authorities are hoping that the smoking ban is enforced by the NY citizens themselves - 'cause we all know that your average New Yorker is an environmentally-conscious human being with aspirations for world peace and an inherent sense of selflessness... We'll see how it goes.

Not quite.

I'm willing to take a bet that the people in charge of passing this law aren't smokers. Sigh (cough).

Song of the Week: The Lonely Island - Jack Sparrow (feat. Michael Bolton)

It took me a while to decide whether I wanted to make this Song of the Week. Don't ask me why. I've loved The Lonely Island ever since hearing Lazy Sunday. Anyone who can write a song based solely on the premise of going to watch the Chronicles of Narnia at the cinema is genius in my books.

The following song is off the Lonely Island's latest offering: Turtleneck & Chain. Pure class!

This is the latest monstrosity from the ex-hardcore frontman, Sonny Moore - better known by his electro/house producer pseudonym, Skrillex.

Yeah, that's right. It's a remix of the Lady Gagga song 'Born This Way'. Skrillex is a clever little rascal.

All Osama Bin Laden's Base Are Belong To Us

People have been going mental about Osama Bin Laden's death over the past few days - not to mention the overwhelming tsunami of spam that is currently making its way through every known social media outlet on the planet.

From conspiracy theories to internet memes - I don't think the world has been this obsessed by a death since Jesus. There are two noticeable schools of thought regarding the murder (or "assassination" as some would have it) of the turban-wielding, al-Qaeda terrorist: there are those that believe that America was right in its hasty decision to get straight to the point (almost literally) and introduce the dude to his alleged entourage of virgins up in heaven, and there are those who steer clear of celebrating the fact that he's dead - instead they bite their nails, anxiously awaiting the next suicidal attack from the East. Me? I prefer to take the indecisive high ground. 

So, for conspiracy theorists those of you who want to know exactly what happened, here is a little diagram that explains everything. Not sure where it hails from, but I found it on Memeburn. Take note of the Tweets on the right, they are quite hilarious.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 [Trailer]

I've always been one for outlandish, fairytale creatures and bearded wizards - and I'm not even gay. I've been bunking school to see Harry Potter ever since the first movie was released. Now that I'm not in school anymore, I try my hardest to make sure that I bunk something. If you haven't yet heard, Part II of the Deathly Hallows is being released in July and Warner Brothers has just unveiled the first trailer for it.

The press release reads something like this: In the epic finale, the battle between the good and evil forces of the wizarding world escalates into an all-out war. The stakes have never been higher and no one is safe. But it is Harry Potter who may be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice as he draws closer to the climactic showdown with Lord Voldemort. It all ends here.

Rikki Brest: A Chick With Sticks [Interview]

Female drummers are often boxed off into their own class, allowing extremely cool (yet admittedly average) drummers like Meg White take the limelight. As a stand-alone category, girl drummers seem to be few and far between – or maybe they’re just not given the recognition they deserve. Either way, Joburg-born Rikki Brest has developed the perfect platform for herself as a talented musician, as well as a skilled actress and model. And if recognition is in need of giving, you can send it Rikki’s way.

After completing school, Rikki spent a year at COPA (Campus of Performing Arts) studying sound engineering and music performance – majoring in drums. Co-founder (along with Stefania Stefani and Anastasia Ferrara) of the all-girl drum and percussion ensemble, Chix with Stix, Rikki also doubles as band manager and marketer. And as if that isn’t enough to keep her busy, Rikki also gives private drum lessons from her home studio. Lucky students ey?
